Animal Farm Essay

How would you feel if your whole life was controlled by an abusive caretaker? Everything you did was controlled by him, and you were able to do nothing of your choice? This is exactly how the animals of Manor Farm in Animal Farm feel. Every day, they had to work so hard to attempt to please Mr. Jones, their caretaker, but it was never enough. One day, they decided to take matters into their own hands, which is exactly what I would have done. Would you have done the same? Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, is a great story that shows animals aren’t as different from us as we thought.

For most people, it’s simple to connect with all of the animals and the memorable deed they all did. Yet, every person is different, and there might have been an animal they connected with more. I was able to connect with Snowball the most. All of his deeds were great, and it seemed like he sincerely cared about Animal Farm and all its animals. It’s easy for me to connect with Snowball because if I was an animal living on Animal Farm, I would have tried to make the same ideas happen as Snowball, and I would have felt the same way about the farm. Sadly, he was a spy for Mr. Jones and his workers. All of the animals were devastated, yet it shows that animals aren’t as different to us as we thought.

Even though it’s easy to connect with Snowball and his seemingly excellent intentions for Animal Farm, another pig is just as easy to connect with. Napoleon, another pig with the same good intentions as Snowball, just wanted the farm to work smoothly without Mr. Jones. Yet, as the story went on, conditions weren’t getting much better. Work was done almost all the time, with almost none saved for rest. Why was Napoleon doing this? He wanted to prove to the world that Animal Farm could get along just fine without humans. What would I have done in Napoleon’s place? I would try my hardest to prove to the world we were getting along just fine, yet I wouldn’t have gone to the extremes that Napoleon did. This pig had too much power, and power can change everyone’s whole perspective of life.

George Orwell’s beautifully written novel shows how animals can be without any humans to control them. Both Snowball and Napoleon had good intentions for the farm, and the animals couldn’t decide who had the better plan. Once Napoleon found out about Snowball not being on their side, he won the election. If I was there, I wouldn’t have believed the Snowball was a spy for Mr. Jones. He seems like he loved the farm and all of its animals. If you were there, whose side would you have taken? Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, is a wonderful novel that shows animals are just like us in many ways.

My Day at The Zoo

There are many great children memories of my childhood, yet there is one that is my favorite of all. I was three or four years old, and my family and I were living in New York. One day, we decided to go to the Bronx Zoo. It was the first time I had ever been to the zoo, so I was really excited. What surprises would be there for me?

Everything seemed huge at the Zoo, and I was so tiny. Even though I was scared because of that, I was fascinated with all of the animals. I don’t feel frightened of how large everything was now, I still am fascinated by the animals, and how they live their lives. Most of these animals lived in the wild, and they were able to adjust to zoo life pretty quickly. When I move to Illinois from New York, it took me a lot longer to adjust.

Even though it's simple to still be able to connect with how I feel with the animals, what happened after that is even easier to relate to. Once we were leaving the zoo, at the end of the day, I was tired yet also happy that I was able to see all of the animals, and that I actually enjoyed myself. While I was walking, I glanced up to see a flock of birds flying overhead. They were so beautiful! I looked back down, and we were just a few feet from the car. All of a sudden, I felt something very cold seep onto my head. What was it? When I glanced up, the birds were flying away. One of them had pooped on my head! Being three years old, I started crying. I probably would still cry, or freak out. Though it wasn't funny to me at the time, the whole family left the zoo laughing.

Summer

Summer is a beautiful season, and it's my favorite one of all. Just a few reasons why I love it so much is because firstly, the weather is great. It allows you to wear shorts and tank tops, which you never can wear in any of the other seasons. Also, since school is done for the year, my friends and I can sleep as late as we want, and stay up as late as we want. Finally, I love what goes on in Wisconsin during the summer, such as the Wisconsin State Fair, County Fairs, and Summerfest. Those are just a few reasons why summer is my favorite season.

Flipped Essay Response

How would you feel if someone followed you everywhere you went since the beginning of second grade? This is what one of the main characters, Bryce Loski, of Flipped felt like. Bryce couldn’t get away from Juli Baker, another second grader. To Bryce, it was torture. For Juli, all she wanted was a kiss from Bryce, her first love. Even though most people would not follow their crush around all of the time, it’s simple to relate to Juli. Flipped, written by Wendelin Van Draanen, has complex characters that are easy to connect to.

Almost everyone can connect with both of these main characters. When we were Juli and Bryce’s age, all of us would go to extremes to get the other gender to notice us. Juli did the exact same thing to Bryce, following him, staring at him from across the street, never leaving him alone. She went wherever he went, no questions asked. Would I ever go to the lengths that Juli did with Bryce? I don’t think I would. Even though it’s a little bit far-fetched to me, what Juli did, I still understand where why she was doing this. Bryce was her first love, and with love, people can change their whole sense of reality.

Even though it’s simple to center in on Juli’s feeling about Bryce, don’t forget his side of the story. Since the summer before second grade, Bryce Loski had his own personal stalker. He could never get away from Juli, even for a minute. Also, he could do nothing about it. Anything he tried wouldn’t work; she would just ignore it and keep trying. Bryce was basically going insane. Could I connect to Bryce and how he was attempting to avoid Juli? It’s easier for me to relate to Bryce than Juli, yet I would also try to get to know Juli better, if I was in his place. There might have been more to her that meets the eye. Getting to know Juli more might have changed his perspective of her, and Bryce definitely needed a change in the way Juli was thought about in his mind.

Wendelin Van Draanen’s novel is a great story that shows you what happens with first love, and when that love is not returned. Juli Baker loved Bryce Loski, and did whatever she could to make her feel the same way. Bryce just wanted Juli to stay away from him. It’s very easy to connect with both characters, no matter who you agree with. Which character can you connect with? Flipped, a story by Wendelin Van Draanen, is a wonderful story about the glory and heartbreak of first love.
