7th Grade

7th grade is a little more difficult than Horizon is, but it's better. At least, it is to me. I think that the schedule is better, because the day goes by faster than Horizon's did. My favorite class so far is probably Social Studies or Concert Choir. Those are my favorites because researching in Social Studies is interesting, and I love to sing in Choir. I have most of my classes with my friends. The only friend who I don't have any classes with is my friend Olivia, but I have lunch with all of my friends, which I enjoy. I like the laptops, yet sometimes there are a problem. The Internet connection is sometimes very slow. If it is slow, we can't get onto the websites we need to fast enough to do our class work or our homework. Overall, 7th grade is a lot better than Horizon to me.

Favorite animal

Dogs are my favorite kind of animal. I have a dog named Mickey. She is a australian shepherd, with a little bit of husky too. My dog has one blue eue and one brown eye, and she's seven years old. Mickey is also slightly insane. She loves to grab her rope toy and start flinging it around the house. It went straight into the T.V. one time. It was hilarious because even when it bounced right off, Mickey refused to go near in for about three days. She also almost broke our air freshener. It's a air freshener that shoots out a blast of scented air when you press a button. Her rope toy then flew into the air, and slammed into the air freshener. Then, it flipped over and fell off the table. Though, it didn't break, which was good. Overall, my dog is slightly insane, yet I love her a lot.

Literary Analysis of Mary Poppins

The sun was shining brightly outside on 17 Cherry Tree Lane. In this house lived the Banks family, where their inside sun was not shining so brightly. This family had just lost their sixth nanny in four months. Even though that had just happened to the Banks family, life still went on in its cheerful and happy way. In the movie “Mary Poppins” by P.L. Travers, we see the characteristics, plotline, and symbolism of a romance mode of literature.

A romance sign of literature usually has the characteristics of the book or movie being unrealistic, and making sure that the good forces (the people we root for) are very powerful. The evil (the people who we don’t like that much) are weak and laughable. Some of the good forces in this story are, of course, Mary Poppins, Bert, the chimney sweeper, and the children, Jane and Michael. There are only a few evil forces in the movie, and they are Mr. Banks and all of his bosses and coworkers. Mary Poppins is very strong, and Mr. Banks is so weak it’s laughable. Good will conquer evil in a romance, and that's exactly what happens in this story. Also, another trait of a romance is that everything seems better than it really this. Even after the Banks had lost their nanny again, when Mrs. Banks comes home, the first thing she does is burst into song. She was so bright and cheerful, when no one else was close to that. Whenever anyone was down, or in virtually every situation, the main characters found solution in singing about it. This made everything seem better than it actually was.

While the characteristics of “Mary Poppins” basically prove that it’s a romance, its plotline shows it even more than the characteristics does. Romances usually start out with a tiny, minor conflict, and it ends with a life symbolism such as falling in love, and getting married. The minor conflict of Mary Poppins was that the Banks family was losing nannies left and right. The force of evil in this movie was Mr. Banks, because Mr. Banks and the children like different types of nannies. The life symbolism of this movie was that Mr. Banks transferred over to the good forces, and left the evil side. He did that by becoming nicer to the children and he started enjoying Mary Poppins’ job. Since Mr. Banks started being a more enjoyable person, Mary Poppins had done her job and then was able to leave the Banks family with a happy ending.

Since the characteristics and plotline of “Mary Poppins” show it’s a romance, you will expect for the symbolism to show that too, and it does. A few of the main symbolisms of a romance is that the main times for things to happen is morning or sunrise, it is spring, and there are animals like rabbits, baby animals, and butterflies. This movie has most or all of those symbolisms, and many more. Some of the symbolism is that there are talking penguins that can dance, too. Also, there are many other animals that are very cheerful around Mary Poppins, Bert, and the children. Next, most or all of the main scenes take place at morning. That is a classic sign of the romance literature. Finally, Mary Poppins, as the main character, is always told by Bert, Michael, and Jane that she is “practically perfect in every way”. The children kept saying “It’s Mary who we love!” This wonderful nanny made everyone love her and her work, and that is a huge clue for proving that “Mary Poppins” is a romance.

Flying nannies, dancing penguins, and singing, singing, and even more singing, are all characteristics of an unrealistic mode of literature. This movie is also very bright and cheerful, and everything seems better than it really is. If those are the main ideas of a story, it has to be a romance. Also, Mary Poppins could do no wrong, never, even if it should have been her fault. These facts and more prove that this movie is a romance. The classic movie “Mary Poppins”, by P.L Travers, shows almost all of the characteristics, symbolism, and plotline of a romance mode of literature.

My Favorite Class

My favorite class so far is Social Studies. I like Social Studies because we get to research different countries and ideas. Also, the class is basically made up of making different projects and presenting them to the class. Public speaking isn't my favorite thing to do, but once it's done with, I feel a lot better than before. So far, my favorite project was the Europe project. The class got a country to do, and we could make a poster, essay, or power point to show him and the class what we have learned. I chose Germany. Germany was a very interesting country to learn about. Social Studies is very interesting, and that's why it's my favorite class.

Christmas Trees

I love Christmas. Everyone's so cheerful and happy, and almost everywhere you go there's some type of lights or tree. My favorite part of Christmas is singing my favorite Christmas carols. Also, decorating our family Christmas tree is always enjoyable. This year my family is going to get a real tree, and not a fake one. Two years ago, my dad bought a fake tree and put it together. At the end of the year, when my dad tried to take it apart, it almost broke. He made sure it didn't, but it was close. After that, he grabbed the directions and said
"I'll be able to figure it out again next year."
Then the directions went in the trash. Let's just say next Christmas, we had to go buy a real tree a few weeks before Christmas was here. Christmas is a great time to spend with friends and family, and that's why it's my favorite holiday.

Found

It was a windy day when the man crossed the road and went into the bus station. Where exactly was he going? I didn’t know. There was doubt in my mind that he knew very well either. This man looked lost. He might have even been a boy. Maybe 18, 19 at the oldest. What was he doing here? Should I ask him? That might been an invasion of privacy. If I don’t though, he might get himself into trouble. I wrestled with myself in my mind before I finally just decided to ask him.

“Excuse me?” I asked him. “Are you going onto the New York City bus? That’s the only bus coming in about 2 or 3 hours.”

“Umm yes, I’m going on that bus. Thank you.” Then this man walked onto the bus.

It looked like he was going to say yes to whatever I asked. He didn’t really seem like the kind of person who was going to be truthful. At least if he’s going on that bus, I can keep an eye on him.

The ride to New York City felt microscopic, even though it was three hours. The boy got off right in front of me and started walking off into the pouring rain, without an umbrella.
“Hey!” I shouted out at him.
”Yes?” He answered.
“Do you know where you’re going? Are you really going to walk in this weather?”
“I know where I’m going. It’s not far.”
“Well, I can’t just let you walk in this weather. Let me get a cab for you.” I stared him down so he agreed.
“Just tell him where you want to go.” I handed the cab driver a 20 and stepped back. “Have a nice trip.” He nodded again. Then, the cab sped off, weaving in and out of New York City’s crazy traffic. I signaled for a cab of my own, wondering if that boy would be okay and if I would ever see him again.

The answer, it turned out, was gratefully yes. I saw this strange man walking through the sunshine in Grand Central Park. At least, I think it was him. If it wasn’t, he had a twin. I thought that it was doubtful this was this man’s twin. He turned around as I slipped past and said,

“Thank you for the cab money. I’m Tom, though I didn’t tell you that before. What’s your name?”

“Jessica. I’m 40, if you were wondering. How old exactly are you, Tom?”

“17 years old.”

“That’s very young for roaming around the city yourself! I assume that’s what you’re doing? It didn’t exactly look like you had a certain place to go.”

“I didn’t have an exact place in mind.”

“Did you even want to go to New York? Or did you just tell me that, then just got on the bus?”

“Look, I really didn’t or don’t care about where I’m going. I’m just getting away from my stupid family and town. Though I really don’t understand why exactly I’m telling you that.”

“Go home, Tom. Your family is probably going sick with worry. I know I would be if one of my children ran away and took a bus to a place I didn’t know.”

“My family doesn’t care about me.”

“Tom, I would hate to have to force you to go home. Sadly, you aren’t yet 18. So, you have to go home. Maybe later in life, like a year or two, you can leave, go to college or something. Finish out your education. Come on, let’s go.” I grabbed his arm and pulled him along to the nearest bus station.

“Where do you live?”

“Just get me on the bus to Chicago.” Tom grumbled.

Perfectly, there was a Coach bus to Chicago coming in five minutes. I took out a $50, paid the $30 bus fare, and handed him a $20 for food.

“Have a nice trip. I hope everything works out for you.”

“Thank you.” He said to me.

Tom then got on the Coach and took a seat. As he did, the bus started pulling out of the station and zipping down the street, the other way I had to walk. I turned around and watched the boy from the New York City bus pulling fast away from me.

Waves

I love the sound of crashing waves. It's so peaceful, hearing them lightly crash upon each other, going onto the shore, then pulling back in, They are great to play in, too. I remember when I went to Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin Dells. There was a wave pool where the waves went up to 9 ft high. My friends and I tried jumping over them, bodysurfing on them, and pushing right into the center of them. Even when we went to the shallow 2 ft end we got blasted back. I was the one who got stuck starting to get sucked in towards the water vent when waves get sucked in. My friends had to tug me away from the current. It was hilarious .We stayed in the wave pool basically the whole time we were there. Now every time I go into a wavepool, I always think of this one in Mount Olympus.

Rain

I love rain. What I love most is being able to go running through it the rain is lightly coming down. You can't really go outside and run through a downpour. Well, maybe. I don't think your parents would be very happy with you if you walked into the outside, dripping wet, probably caked with mud. I've never tried that, but I have a strong feeling about what my parents would say, and I doubt that I would be very happy with what does happen. I won't go running through the pouring rain anytime soon.

Halloween

Halloween is probably one of my favorite days of the year. It's always great to go and hang out with all of your friends, maybe dress up and go trick or treating if you want to. I usually don't dress up for Halloween, but this year I'm going to the Halloween dance. I have to be an angel. Have to, because my friend Hannah is forcing me. She's going to be a devil, so I have to be a n angel. Then, we will be opposites. I'll have a good time, though. Also, I'm looking forward to all of the candy. :)

Book I'm reading

The book that I'm reading right now is called The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan. It's the first one in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I've read all of Rick Riordan's books, but I'm rereading this one. It's about a boy who finds out that his father is Poseidon, the Greek god of the Sea. Then he is accused of stealing Zeus's, the Greek god of the sky, master lightning bolt. Percy is then basically forced to go on a quest to find the master lightning bolt and then return it to Zeus in no more then 9 days. It's an great, fast paced adventure that I think everyone would love.

Patriotism Essay

Suiting up into their battle wear, our army gets ready to fight for our country. They have good weapons, huge numbers, and all of them are trained well to do exactly what they have to go do. This army also has something big: the drive to help our country. How? Because of patriotism. Now, if America didn't have patriotism, the army probably wouldn’t have the will to fight. They still might win, but they wouldn't have the drive that they had before. Patriotism still matters because love and devotion is always important in countries.

An important part of patriotism is pride. Pride can be shown in many different ways for your country, like showing love for your country, being proud of your country, and being devoted to your country. This aspect of patriotism is probably one of the most important parts of being patriotic. If people in the U.S. didn’t show pride for the country, where would we be?

Though pride is a very important part of patriotism, one that is even more important is loyalty. Loyalty is showing love for your country for reasons none other than being a resident there. It is supporting your country and being proud for the country you live in. Loyalty for your country is still and will always be needed. Having loyalty will mean that people will fight for their country, and we will always need that.

Pride and loyalty both connect into war. You need both pride and loyalty to fight for your country and that brings a drive to fighting. War is about fighting for your country and keeping it safe. People risk their lives every day to keep us and the U.S. safe. When you fight in a war, you are showing pride and loyalty to your country in unbelievable ways. Being in a war is a great way to show all of that.

Patriotism definably still matters. It means showing love and pride for your country, supporting your country, keeping your country safe, and just being an excellent citizen. That’s what being a excellent citizen of your country and having patriotism is all about. Patriotism still matters because of all the things it does to help our country be a better one.

Lost Hero

The Lost Hero is awesome! I'm only about 200 pages in, which sounds like a lot, but there's about 600 pages. It's a big book. Everyone should read it!!!
